The countdown (and frantic preparation) begins!
In four days, I will be hitting the road for points east with my canine copilot, Ozzy.
My Sunday was primarily focused on getting the car cleaned up with a good wash and vacuum, and decked out with new seat covers and floor mats. (Can you say half a beach worth of sand and a whole other dog’s worth of hair?!). Unfortunately, I discovered a short in one of the headlights, thanks to the nice woman at O’Reilly’s who put in a new bulb for me. Sooo… I’ll need to get that repaired before I hit the road.
Mechanically, everything else looks good, with new tires, front end alignment and engine fluids all flushed and refilled.
I also went through aaaallll of my first aid and emergency stuff to consolidate into a car kit, a hiking kit and a dog kit. As a former EMT and Wilderness First Responder, I tend to take emergency preparedness seriously and try to be prepared for the worst while hoping for the best. You may be wondering what the heck goes in a dog first aid kit, so I will write more on that in a later post.
In the meantime, Ozzy is testing out the car bed, and so far it seems to pass muster for him. I, on the other hand, have older bones and joints than him, so I may be looking around for a way to add some extra padding in there.
Time to get back to packing!
